Our Story

At Helensburgh Cricket and Rugby Football Club, rugby is more than a sport; it’s a community, a tradition, and a passion that brings generations together. From our youngest Bear Cubs to our seasoned 1XV players, we are proud to offer rugby for everyone - all ages, all abilities, and all backgrounds.

A Legacy of Rugby

Founded in 1963, Helensburgh Rugby has a rich and proud heritage as a cornerstone of sport in the local community. Over the decades, our club has grown in strength, numbers, and spirit, thanks to the dedication of players, volunteers, parents, members and supporters who have kept the game alive on and off the pitch. Our clubhouse and pitches at Ardencaple have seen countless battles, friendships, and celebrations – each part of our evolving story.

Pathways for All Ages
​
We are passionate about developing rugby from the grassroots up. Our inclusive rugby pathway welcomes everyone from age 3 upwards:
 

  • Bear Cubs (Under 4s): The very beginning of the rugby journey – fun, movement, and play-based sessions for toddlers discovering sport for the first time.

  • Micros and Minis (P1–P7): Introduction to rugby fundamentals in a safe, exciting, and encouraging environment. Skills, teamwork, and friendships grow here.

  • Youth Rugby (U13s–U18s): A competitive and developmental pathway, building strength, confidence, and game understanding. Many of our senior players started their journey here.

  • Senior Rugby: Our Men’s 1XV and 2XV squads compete in regional leagues, fostering both performance and camaraderie. New and returning players are always welcome, regardless of ability or experience.
