Helensburgh Rugby Club’s newly formed over-30s tag team rounded off a brilliant first season at Edinburgh Tag Fest on Saturday!

Formed only in April, the team headed to Inch Park for their first-ever tournament, joining more than 32 teams from across the UK and Europe.
Six fast-paced games followed, with Helensburgh competing well throughout and producing some outstanding defensive performances. Stuart Corbett-Dick, Frank McIntyre and Paul O’Donnell helped make defence a real strength, while Craig Bowman grabbed a number of tries and Freddie Holloman and Martin McQueen worked tirelessly throughout the day.
Lauren McCreadie deserves a special mention, taking on her first tournament after just TWO tag training sessions, while Niell Lyell produced some blistering breaks. Gordon and Haley Andrew somehow managed to combine tournament rugby with looking after the kids on the sidelines!
And we saved the best for last…
Helensburgh finished the tournament with a fantastic 7–4 WIN!
Laura McIntyre was named Player of the Match after relentless tagging and scoring her first tag try, while Hannah MacLachlan also grabbed her first try, assisted brilliantly by Steve Powell.
A massive thank you to team manager Yvonne Bowman, assistant David Heigsworth, all our players, families and supporters who made the trip.
Six months. One tournament. Six hard-fought games. And a win to finish.
Not bad for our first go!
We’ll be back in 2027.
